Chelsea v Manchester United – Player ratings: UEFA Champions League - Part 2
After revealing the player ratings for Chelsea’s back line for their performance against Manchester United in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League matchup at Stamford Bridge, it is now time to shed some light on Chelsea’s midfield and their player
ratings...
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Essien-c25294
There is some debate as to where Essien and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s names to fire on all cylinders, Essien was a peripheral
figure in his team’s 4-4-2 formation. Under Mourinho, Essien turned into a fantastic performer in a three man midfield, but his inability was revealed last night, when he failed to impress against a Manchester United midfield, which brings its own bag of faults.
Essien hardly contributed to the buildup play, and his impact on the match as a defensive enforcer was minimal. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 dropped back in the midfield region, whenever Chelsea had the possession of the ball and man-marked Michael Essien, a task that made
it harder for the Ghanaian midfielder to make his mark on the game. Rating: 5.5/10
Frank Lampard
Lampard’s dwindling form has been has been a direct cause whose effect has resulted in Chelsea’s lack of success this season. Whether it is European football or domestic form, Lampard has failed to reach the heights that he previously kissed with Chelsea
in club football. Against Manchester United, Lampard showcased some moments of brilliance, but far too often, the Englishman was caught out in possession by his compatriot, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Carrick-c25282.
Additionally, the former West Ham playmaker held back in attack, as he seldom surged into United’s penalty area. Lampard did have the best chance of the night to get the equalizing goal for Chelsea, but it can be argued that he fluffed his shot as Patrice
Evra cleared off-the-line in the dying stages of the first half. Rating: 6/10
Ramirez
Chelsea’s Brazilian starlet was a source of joy down the right hand side for most of the first half, but the energetic midfielder failed to perform his defensive duties to the required levels. United’s first goal came through the right hand side and arguably,
Ramirez should have done more, as Michael Carrick was given way too much time on the ball as he picked out http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Giggs-c31985 with an inch perfect diagonal ball.
In attack, Ramirez failed to get the better of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrice-Evra-c29231, so it was just an average performance by the former Benfica player. The Brazilian playmaker was also guilty of missing one of Chelsea’s clear cut goal scoring chances in the second half when he
headed wide of United’s goal in the second half following Drogba’s sublime cross. Chelsea’s faithful fans will ask more of Ramirez when the Blues travel to Old Trafford to turn a one goal deficit into a win on 12th of April, 2011.
Rating: 6/10
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yuri-Zhirkov-c37683
After playing a bit-part role this season for Chelsea, Zhirkov’s name on the startling list for the Blues was a surprise to everyone at Stamford Bridge. The Russian winger’s performance did little to justify his selection in the first place but the case
in point was sadly, quite predictable. Zhirkov earned Chelsea that crucial penalty earlier on in the season against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge in the English Premier League, so Ancelotti fancied the winger’s chances of troubling United’s inexperienced
right back Rafael da Silva.
However, that never really happened as Zhirkov was wasteful and uninventive in possession. Chelsea’s winger failed to add anything new to their attack and was duly substituted in the second half for a much livelier http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Florent-Malouda-c13838.
Rating: 5.5/10
In the third part of this featured series, we shall take a look at Chelsea’s attacking duo of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 along with their substitutes...
