In the 21st minute, Yuri Zhirkov was involved in Chelsea’s offensive move as the left sided midfielder switched the play with an accurate through ball towards Nicolas Anelka. Regardless, Anelka’s final shot on Johan
Wiland’s goal was parried away by the goalkeeper as Chelsea were denied their first goal of the match.
In the 26th minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895’s rash tackle on Dame N’Doye. FC København’s striker stepped
up to take the set-piece himself and his brilliantly curled effort thudded off the goalpost as Chelsea survived their first real goal-mouth scare of the match.
In the 33rd minute, Chelsea had another glorious opportunity to open the scoring as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 chipped the ball over FC København’s defence towards on-rushing Nicolas Anelka. The French striker then had the vision
to play in Yuri Zhirkov whose shot missed København’s goal by mere centimeters as the score line remained 0-0 at Stamford Bridge.
After Zhirkov’s effort, København embarked on a solid spell of possession. However, the away side found it hard to carve open Chelsea’s resolute defence which was provided extra protection due to the defensive nature of Jon Obi
Mikel’s role for the English giants.
Zhirkov was, no doubt, Chelsea’s main man in the first half of the match. His incisive yet direct approach to the match paid dividends for the home side. whereas for FC København, their goalkeeper did admirably to keep a clean
sheet for the first 45 minutes of the encounter.
Chelsea themselves did well to dominate the first half on the whole but in all honesty, the English champions lacked that cutting edge in front of the oppositions goal. Despite tailoring some brilliant goal scoring chances, Carlo
Ancelotti’s team ended the first half right where they started. At the half time break both the teams were deadlocked at nil all.
