The Barclays Premier League season has reached its halfway point and Fantasy Premier League managers who want to know how individual players did need only read on.
There has been an air of tension surrounding Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas’s job at the London Club, with owner Roman Abramovich known for axing his managers like a butcher does meat. This made Aston Villa’s visit to Stamford Bridge on the eve of the
New Year a must win game for the home side.
Things got off to a near perfect start for the Blues as Didier Drogba was fouled in the area for a penalty. The Ivorian striker than stepped up and bravely hit the ball right down the centre of the goal as the opposing keeper dived to the side only to pick
the ball out of the net moments later.
However, it was all downhill for the home side from then on in as Stephen Ireland hammered the ball home from close range after some poor defending by Chelsea’s back four.
The Chelsea midfield and defence were caught napping again when Stiliyan Petrov found space in the box to slot the ball past the hapless Petr Cech for his side’s second goal. It was not long after that Frank Lampard’s ridiculous pass set opposition away
and Darren Bent added insult to injury by scoring the third goal for Martin O’Neil’s side.
Chelsea
Petr Cech: 2 points – the Blues keeper did not have the best of nights between the posts as the three goals conceded meant a one point deduction though the fact that he did pull of four saves did save him somewhat.
Paulo Ferreira: 2 points – the only Chelsea defender to get more than a single point, though in this case that is not a compliment.
David Luiz and Ashley Cole: 1 point – neither player had a particularly memorable night and managers who had the two players in their sides will probably be just as frustrated as Mr. Villas-Boas.
John Terry: 0 points – the Chelsea skipper is having a roller coaster of a season with his inconsistencies in form a real concern for everyone and not only his manager. With no points earned this gameweek, one can expect his value to drop
in the transfer market.
Raul Meireles: 2 points – the former Liverpool player tried his luck from range a number of times but just could not find the back of the net on any attempt and had to settle for a lowly two point total by the end of the 90-minutes.
Ramires: 2 points – the midfielder had nothing to offer his side’s quest for a victory and was more of a spectator in the match. Luckily the Fantasy Premier League points system allows players to earn points for just standing in the field
of play.
