Chelsea who lost to united 2-1 on the night and 3-1 on aggregate means that the Blues have to wait for yet another season before they accomplish their European dream.
Ancelotti admitted that the issue is now out of his hands and his fate as the manager at Stamford Bridge now is in the hands of the club owner Roman Abramovich. Chelsea have already been knocked out of the FA cup and are currently placed third in the league.
Ancelotti started with the pairing of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 upfront. The Spaniard though, had a real poor half as a result of which he was substituted at half time. After the interval, Drogba was introduced to the struggling Chelsea team and the Ivorian had an immediate impact, getting the crucial goal that made it 1-1 on the night. However, in the very next minute Ji Sung Park made it 2-1 to Manchester United and any hopes of a Chelsea come back were put to bed.
When asked whether he made a mistake by starting Torres in place of Drogba Ancelotti said, "Maybe. Could be. I told you a lot of times this season I wanted to start with Fernando for this kind of game. Didier played well in the second half. I wanted to put more pressure up front because we needed to score. Didier was fresh, this was the reason I took out Fernando."
Ferguson on the other hand was not critical of Chelsea for starting with Torres but might have taken a dig at the Blues for the money they paid to get Liverpool's extra baggage.
"A lot of people thought Drogba would play. I thought having signed Torres for the money they did they had to play him. I wasn't 100% sure but I couldn't see how they could leave Torres out," said Ferguson.
Torres’ scoreless streak continues and he has not netted in 817 minutes or 13 games for both club and country now.
