Chelsea vs. Manchester United: Yossi Benayoun believes his side can win UEFA Champions League if they beat United
Former Liverpool midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yossi-Benayoun-c37520 admitted the Blues had to win the UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash against Manchester United to save their season. The Israel international is well aware though that for Chelsea to make it to the semi-finals
of the European competition, the Blues have to overturn a deficit of a goal at Old Trafford, quite a daunting task.
Chelsea went in the first-leg of the Champions League quarter-final brimming with confidence since they were hosting Manchester United at Stamford Bridge. However, they found themselves chasing the English Premier League leaders who took the lead with Wayne
Rooney’s goal. Despite various attempts Chelsea were unable to equalize and had a controversial penalty claim turned down towards the end of the match.
Now when Chelsea travel to Old Trafford they will have to score two goals while maintaining a clean sheet if they want to keep their hopes of the European Cup alive. Benayoun realizes this is http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s last opportunity to claim silverware this season, having
already been eliminated from both the cup competitions and currently at third place on the Premier League table.
Benayoun said while speaking to reporters, “Everyone knows - the manager, the players - that we are playing to save our season. It's most likely from here we will finish in the top three or four and be in the Champions League next season. That's almost done.
The only thing left is to try to win a trophy and the only trophy we can win is the Champions League.”
The Israeli midfielder was confident the Blues could win the coveted Champions League if they managed to make it past Manchester United in the quarter-finals. He continued, “We have to do our best and give everything. If we win this game, it will change
everything. I'm sure that, if we beat United, we will go to the end and win the trophy. It is our final on Tuesday.”
Benayoun arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2010 from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 for a fee of £5.5 million. He left Anfield for more competitive football but had an unlucky start at Chelsea, being sidelined for most of the season. He picked up an Achilles injury
during the Carling Cup clash against Newcastle United and has been out of action since then.
He has now returned to fitness and while he is not completely fit, the 30-year-old hopes to make a difference for the Blues in the upcoming Champions League clash.
