Despite stating that they might not sign Di Matteo on a permanent basis, they also went on to insist that any decision to sign a manager would be made at the end of the season and until then, nothing could be said for certain.
Di Matteo was made the interim manager of Chelsea, following the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas. However, following his appointment, he went on to switch things up at the club and even helped the team beat http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604, while seeing the team make it all the way to the finals of the Champions League.
Gourlay, when talking about the situation at hand, went on to insist that the club would follow their initial plan and wouldn’t change the way they had thought out the future of the team.
He went on to state: "It's very important that we follow out what we said originally, we appointed Robbie [Di Matteo] as an interim manager until the end of the season"
"We decided that we wouldn't start any speculation during the period that we have between now and the end of the season where we have some very important games to play and we have agreed that we would leave that until the end of the season.
"Since Robbie took over we've had 15 games, 10 wins, four draws and one defeat. It's been a good turnaround.”
"We just went through a period where performances and results weren’t very good and we've managed to turn that around with the same team of players.”
He then went on to insist that the team needed to focus on seeing out the rest of the season on a high and doing as well as they possibly could.
However, he applauded Di Matteo for the work he had done at the club and hoped for things to work out for the manager and for the club in the future.
Nonetheless, Chelsea fans will now have to wait till the end of the season to see just who gets appointed as the Blues next manager.
