Chelsea’s Brazilian star Alex out for three weeks
Chelsea's star defender, Alex, will be out of action for the coming three weeks as a result of a thigh injury that the player picked up during his team’s match this past weekend against Arsenal.
Alex scored a thunderbolt of a goal five minutes from time during the match to give his side a two goal advantage on the night. The victory also saw Chelsea take a four point lead at the top of the Premier League table after
managing to secure eighteen points from their opening seven games.
However despite the win, during the dying stages of the game, Alex was forced off the pitch after he seemed to not be able to go on any further. At that time it was still quite unclear as to how badly the player had managed
to injure himself. But the severity of his injury has been finally revealed on the Chelsea website, which states, "The central defender underwent medical assessment on a thigh muscle injury sustained in the closing moments of Sunday's win over Arsenal."
"It is estimated he will be out for three weeks."
As a direct result, the player will be forced to sit out Brazil's international friendlies, which are scheduled to take place this week against Iran and Ukraine. The defender is also more than likely to miss out on Chelsea's
Champions League match against Spartak Moscow and maybe even the fixture against Aston Villa.
Alex was made a part of the Chelsea starting eleven ever since Ricardo Carvalho decided to jump ship and join Real Madrid. The Brazilian defender has however, since joining the first team, proven that he is as good as anyone
out there when it comes to defending. He is strong, solid and a brilliant winner of the ball. He can win aerial battles with ease and can take more than just a decent strike at goal, which was clearly evident in the game against Arsenal. Chelsea have the likes
of Branislav Ivanovic to fill in for Alex over the coming few weeks. However Ivanovic has now started to establish himself as more of a right back and hence the player and the club will be hoping that Alex can make a speedy recovery and continue to display
the impressive form that that has been showing so far this season.
