Chelsea’s Carlo Ancelotti refuses to get complacent
Chelsea’s coach, Carlo Ancelotti has publicly repudiated that he will not get complacent after Chelsea established a healthy lead at the top of the table. Chelsea has been in top form since the start of the season unlike other Premiership contenders which
have produced flabby performances so far this season.
However, the former AC Milan manager insists that it’s too early to talk about the titles. He asserted that other top teams will recover from their slow starts to give them a tough challenge this season. Chelsea’s Italian manager said, “It is a good advantage
but tomorrow it might be different. It is too early to say we have enough points. We have started the season well and have to continue that. A difficult moment will arrive for us and we have to be ready. So, in that respect it was very good result and leaves
us in a good position.”
Ancelotti also praised the fitness and robustness of his team after it grinded two victories in a single week. Another positive for Italian is the return of Didier Drogba into the team. Drogba missed last two matches due to a virus infection. Nevertheless,
his performance was not up to the mark and this was accepted by Ancelotti. He stated, “It was a difficult week because of the travel to Moscow for the Champions League game against Spartak. We were not 100%. It is important to win when you are not 100%. We
did not play our best. Drogba was not precise in his play and lost a lot of balls. He needed to play with the team after his illness and be comfortable on the pitch.”
The right-back, Jose Bosingwa finally achieved his fitness and made his come back after a prolonged injury which had ruled him out for nearly 13 months. Bosingwa injured his knee last season and resultantly missed the latter part of the last and start of
this season. However, Bosingwa made his impression as his speed troubled the Sunderland’s defence. He even went close to scoring a goal on two occasions. Commenting on Bosingwa’s return, Ancelotti said, “Bosingwa played very well and he was one of the best
players on the pitch. He put a lot of pressure on them in the second-half. He is an important player for us in the future because he has speed for attacking play. It was very difficult for him being out but he was excited to play.”
Meanwhile, in a welcoming development at Old Trafford, it is reported that Glazer family has pledged £100 million transfer booty to Sir Alex Ferguson. According to media reports, this was one of the factors behind Wayne Rooney’s sensational u-turn. Earlier,
Rooney, while publicising his intention on leaving the Old Trafford, had openly questioned the ambition of the club. But, after getting assurances from the Glazers, he decided to commit his future to the club.
After signing a new contract, the England international said, “I'm signing a new deal in the absolute belief that the management, coaching staff, board and owners are totally committed to making sure United maintains its proud winning history.” Additionally,
Rooney was reluctant to rejoin Manchester City whereas Barcelona and Real Madrid were not interested in procuring his services as both were already happy with the depth of their squads. Resultantly, Rooney decided to stick at the club where he will be paid
a basic wage of £150,000 per week. In case the performance targets are met, his wage could go up to £200,000 per week.
Manchester United has been in financial hot-waters since the arrival of the Glazer family. The club has been under heavy debt which had resulted after the Americans’ infamous takeover. Glazer family has now decided to give Ferguson £100million to raid the
market. With these funds, Ferguson will now be in a strong position to compete with Chelsea and Manchester City in the transfer market.
