Chelsea's Daniel Sturridge wants regular first-team place
Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge says that he wants to nail down a regular place in the starting line-up with the English Premier League champions.
The 21-year-old attacker has yet to start an EPL game this season — he has done so just three times in his career — but has made seven appearances from the bench.
However, the England Under-21 international got his chance to shine when he started in the 2-1 UEFA Champions League group stage win over MSK Zilina at Stamford Bridge and scored the equaliser just after half-time.
Nevertheless, Sturridge wants to be playing from the start more regularly and pointed towards the terrific form shown by Gareth Bale at Tottenham Hotspur as an example of the benefits that playing more regularly against top-level opposition can bring. He
also warned that he may have to look for a move to another club if he is not handed more chances by manager Carlo Ancelotti.
He told the Daily Mail: “I'm at the age when I want to be starting. I'm not saying the manager needs to oust other players to get me in but I need to be playing more often. It's important at a young age to be playing regularly because that's how you learn
to play the game. When you're coming off the bench it's difficult to get into the pace of the game and do well. I don't want to be branded a super-sub. I'd rather be branded a super-starter.
“Look at Gareth Bale. He's doing amazingly but it wasn't so long ago people were talking about how he hadn't won a game. That's from the confidence of playing regularly. If the opportunities don't come in due time, obviously I will have to look elsewhere.
Because it is only a matter of time until you get frustrated.”
