http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Luiz-c10542 has revealed he almost pulled out of the UEFA Champions League final after aggravating his hamstring injury.
Despite putting a brilliant performance alongside http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Branislav-Ivanovic-c7994, Luiz revealed he was not a 100% fit for the win over Bayern Munich. However, Luiz chose to participate in the match after spending almost a
month on the sidelines.
Along with Luiz, Cahill also made a comeback from the same sort of injury, with the duo having to step in for Terry and Ivanovic who were ruled out due to suspension. The 25-year-old admitted he had been struggling with his injury after returning to full
training on Tuesday but decided to carry on despite the pain.
Luiz revealed in an interview:
“I was out for 35 days and I came back but, two days before the final, I had pain again in my leg and there was a chance that maybe I wasn't going to play.
The day before, I had a test to see if I could play and then I ended up playing 120 minutes.”
Even with his hamstring injury, Luiz had no plans of missing the European competition final against the German side. He revealed he had wanted to participate and help his side win the Champions League ever since he was a kid and that he had not been prepared
to let go of his dream.
He admitted:
“When I was a kid, this was my dream and I play with the heart and I'm so happy to end up with the Champions League.”
In the penalty shoot-out after extra-time, Luiz was one of the goal scorers after teammate Juan Mata missed the first penalty for the Blues. The Brazil international revealed he was extremely pleased to have scored for his side in the final, especially after
having missed the last game of the season in the English Premier League.
Luiz continued:
“I always try to help the team. I missed the final games (of the season) and I was so sad, but this penalty was waiting for me.
I had another opportunity, I scored and I was happy with this.”
