Lampard got his first piece of English Premier League action in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend after a long lay-off. The midfielder came on as a substitute in the 77th minute in his first appearance for the Blues since
August this year.
Frank was tipped to start in the game against archrivals Manchester United scheduled on Sunday 19th of December, but the match was called off due to heavy snowfall in the area.
The game against Spurs was also the 2nd start in a league game for Terry, after the defender's recovery from his back problem.
Chelsea’s clash with United will be rescheduled after The FA tries to come up with a date that is agreeable to both clubs.
The champions will face a stern test of their mettle when they travel to city-rivals and title-challengers Arsenal FC on 27th December.
Regarded as the “heart” and “soul” of Chelsea, the English duo will form the spine of the team when they take on the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium at the weekend.
While commenting on the importance of Terry and Lampard, Malouda said, “It is fantastic to have John Terry and Lampard back I think we are a better team when they play. They are the kind of players who are leaders and take responsibility every game. They
can change a game and everyone knows how important they are to us.”
Lampard’s injury has cost his side dearly, as the Blues have lost their lead at the top of the table in the Premier League. Carlo Ancelotti’s men have dropped from 1st to 4th place after a series of poor results; Chelsea are without
a win in their last 5 league matches.
However, the Frenchman believes that Frank and John, both are back to their previous best after recuperating from their injuries.
The winger added, “Its not nice being injured but actually I think it’s been a good period for them because they were able to take time. They played every game for five or six years so for them it was good to have some rest - and now they will come back
stronger.”
Chelsea can climb to 2nd place behind United, if they manage to beat their north-London rivals in the showdown on 27th December.
