Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has admitted he thinks he was lucky to have escaped being sent off after a challenge on Adam Hammill in the clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The 33-year-old made a late challenge on the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 winger and was only given a yellow card by referee Peter Walton. He admitted he was lucky to have been let off easy by the referee for a challenge that could have easily earned him a red card.
Lampard said in an interview after the match:
“There was no malice, and I honestly mean that, but I was late and I might have been a bit lucky to stay on the pitch.
I said straight away to Hammill that I was very sorry. I was just a bit late on it.
I was trying to get my foot in and I was maybe lucky but it wasn't any conspiracy between the ref and us.”
The Blues midfielder, who scored the winning goal for his side in the 89th minute, admitted he was sacred for getting sent off. He revealed the tackle had not been intentional and that he had made a mistake. However, he realized that he was lucky
to not have been sent off for that late tackle.
Lampard revealed he had apologized for the tackle on Hammill since there was no malice involved. He denied that the referee was biased towards the Blues, which is why he had let Lampard off easy for the rather rash tackle on the Wolverhampton Wanderers winger.
Meanwhile Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy revealed he was not concerned with the incident involving http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s second goal. It was Lampard
who converted Ashley Cole’s cross to give his side the win.
McCarthy said while speaking to reporters:
“Whether Frank was on the pitch is irrelevant if we had defended properly.
Let everyone else decide that (whether he should have been sent off). I'm not interested.
If Frank says he is lucky not to be sent off, then bully for him.”
