Chelsea’s Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien uncertain about coaching career, retirement will decide
Much is expected from the African superstar Michael Essien, who has not just been a celebrity in England but is considered an idol back home.
It was speculated that once the Ghanaian retires from his footballing career, he would probably be granted an ambassador status or he would start a coaching career; however, the last option has now been all but ruled out.
Essien has announced that there is barely any chance of him starting a coaching career once he is done with playing football.
He has said that even before he thinks of managerial career his thoughts are led back to the present and the present reminds him of his desire for winning more medals and trophies.
While talking to the media, the African prodigy said, “I have many challenges to fulfil, like winning the Champions League and the World Cup. Becoming a manager? I don’t know, but football has been my life since I was a boy.”
The 27-year-old’s managing speculation began after his fellow teammate from Ghana, Stephen Appiah’s announcement that he is looking forward to a career as a manager.
After hanging up his boots internationally, Appiah made a press release in which he mentioned that he had intentions of becoming a coach, but that is after he is done with his club career and there seems to be some time left for
that to happen.
Currently, the player is in pretty good form while playing for the Italian club Cesena. After the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, there are many players on the list that are reckoned to have a future as a manager.
Not surprisingly, the player on top of the list is the legendary English veteran David Beckham. So far, the player himself has time and again stated that he has no intentions or plans to have a career change which actually brings
up more of an aura of mystery from the enigmatic celebrity.
