Chelsea's John Terry flies out to see specialist over injury, Alex out for eight weeks
Chelsea defender John Terry is said to have flown out to Italy with a doctor from the English Premier League champions to see a specialist regarding his leg injury.
The England international missed 3-0 EPL defeat at home by Sunderland on Sunday 14 November and has also withdrawn from the national team squad to face France in a friendly game on Wednesday 17 November.
The 29-year-old appears to have a problem with the nerves in his right leg, but no doctor has been able to establish the precise nature of the injury yet.
As a result, the BBC reported that the central defender was flown out to Italy along with Chelsea medical staff member Bryan English to be assessed by a specialist.
Terry's injury could see him remain on the sidelines for several months, and the news could hardly have come at a worse time for the EPL leaders, as manager Carlo Ancelotti's other first-choice centre-back, Alex Rodrigo Dias da Costa ('Alex'), is also set for
an extended spell out of action.
The 28-year-old Brazil international is set to undergo an operation on his knee to determine the cause of a problem that saw him miss games against Fulham and Sunderland. The injury also caused him to pull out of his country's international friendly game against
Argentina on Wednesday. He is likely to be out for six to eight weeks, according to Chelsea.
Since breaking through to the first team as a 17-year-old, Terry has become an integral part of the starting XI at Stamford Bridge. He has helped the club win three EPL titles as well as four FA Cups, two Football League Cups and two FA Community Shields.
He also captained the club to the 2008 UEFA Champions League final. In total, he has made 464 appearances for the Blues, and has scored 39 goals for the club.
Alex, meanwhile, has been with Chelsea since 2007. While he initially struggled to feature regularly in the first team, he has become an important player for the club following Ricardo Carvalho's departure to Real Madrid in the summer of 2010.
