Chelsea captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 has revealed the Blues face the opportunity to protect the reputation of English football when they face Napoli in the UEFA Champions League.
The London side will be travelling to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 for the first leg of the clash against Napoli in the round of 16 in the European competition. A victory will see them retain hopes of winning two trophies at the end of the season while a defeat will mean the end
of their hopes of securing the coveted Champions League crown.
It must be noted though that the reputation of English football is also rested on the Blue’s shoulders, with the others sides having almost all been dumped out of the competition. While Manchester City and Manchester United didn’t make it past the group
stages, Arsenal recently lost 4-0 to AC Milan.
It seems highly unlikely that Arsenal will be able to overcome the deficit in the second leg which leaves things up to Chelsea to make it to the next round as the only English team in the competition. The Chelsea skipper revealed he understood the significance
of the matter only too well.
Terry said while speaking to reporters:
“With http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 in a position that is looking hard to turn around, we could end up being the only English team left in the Champions League and it is really important to make a good start to the tie.”
While Terry will be looking forward to leading his side out against Napoli on Tuesday night, he is currently a doubt with a knee problem. Terry has gone on to miss three weeks with the same knee problem and is in a race against time to be fit for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003
clash.
The manager Andre Villas-Boas revealed that while the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international would participate in training on Monday after which it would be decided
if he was fit to participate in the fixture against the Serie A side.
Villas-Boas confirmed in an interview:
“There is a 50-50 chance of him making it. He's going to train on Monday and travel with the team. After that, we'll make a decision.”
