Chelsea’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Salomon-Kalou-c32266 confident of Premier League and Champions League double after beating Manchester United
Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou revealed he felt his side possessed the capacity to complete the Premier League and Champions League this season. His statement came after Chelsea beat rivals and league leaders Manchester United 2-1 at Stamford Bridge. The
Blues were clearly the better side and resembled their old double winning selves, as they were under Carlo Ancelotti during the Italians first season with them.
Despite a great start to the current season the Blues suffered one of their worst slumps in over 15 years. Their demise was credited to the unexpected and untimely departure of assistant coach Ray Wilkins and an “ageing” squad. There was added pressure on
Carlo Ancelotti when the Blues were dumped out of the Carling Cup and the FA Cup and failed to maintain their spot at the top of the league.
Ancelotti’s men have been fairly impressive in the Champions League though, the only competition where their performance have not been affected. Chelsea cruised past the group stages, finishing top of their respective group. The next challenge was to face
FC Copenhagen and the London side put up an impressive performance as they beat the Danish side 2-0 away from home.
They will face FC Copenhagen at Stamford Bridge later this month, but that will not be too big of a problem since they have two away goals. The win over Sir Alex Ferguson’s side has lifted Chelsea back into the top four, but Ancelotti was hesitant in claiming
his side were back in the title race. Kalou however, remained optimistic and certain that his side had returned to winning ways.
However, the Ivorian International remained confident about his side’s chances of repeating their success, he said while speaking to reporters, “We have to fight for both competitions, even though; in the Premier League it will be more difficult to win it.
But we have to do like we did on Tuesday night, we have to keep believing and take it game by game.”
Kalou insisted his side were determined to win both the Premier League and the Champions League, despite Chelsea midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 previously claiming the European Cup held more importance for the Blues this season. Kalou continued, “I think we are
showing the good side of Chelsea, because we can't just fight for one competition, we always fight for every competition.”
The final of the Champions League is scheduled to take place on the 28th May at Wembley and the 25-year-old Ivorian believes if they reach the final they have a good chance of winning the coveted trophy. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 have an incredibly good record
at the stadium, not losing a final there since 2006. Kalou said he hoped his side could continue with their good luck at Wembley.
He said, “I love playing at Wembley. It is a great stadium, it has an amazing atmosphere and it is a special place for us. Hopefully we can get here for the final because it is our lucky stadium.”
The Blues face Blackpool in the Premier League on Monday and then host the second leg of the clash against FC Copenhagen at Stamford Bridge on 16th March.
