Chelsea’s Salomon Kalou slams Manchester City’s style of using money
The Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou has lashed out against Manchester City saying that there money spending will not guarantee them the Premier League title. He has criticized their high expenditures uttering it takes more than just money to make a team. He expressed that though Manchester City have many quality players in their team the lack of chemistry will take them down.
Chelsea, who happen to be the defenders of the Premier League title, have been negligent in the market this season. Their only notable signing has been that of the Liverpool winger Yossi Benayoun. Though they have been linked to Liverpool’s world class striker Fernando Torres it does not seem likely that the deal will be sealed this season at least.
However they are reviewing some other players especially from Brazil and more specifically from Benfica. They are on course of signing midfielder Ramires for 18.2 million pounds and are on the lookout for a couple more from the same team. Rumour has it that Chelsea are too high on their expenditure as their low income is covered by their rich Russian owner.
The Champions League authorities have warned Chelsea from over spending and to keep in their budgeted ranges. Experts claim that this is the reason behind their low interest in market this summer. Their manager Carlo Ancelotti has constantly stated that their team does not need new signings and can manage to defend their title with the current squad. However they must be vary of the new signings from Manchester City as they did trouble them last season and they plan on doing so again.
The 24 year old Kalou has stated that Chelsea will indeed be the team that will rise above all this year. He has stated that the era of Manchester United has been eliminated and from now on Blue will be the colour.
While talking to media Kalou expressed, “Manchester City did the same thing last summer. I don't know if they'll be stronger, I'm not sure. Just because you bring in 10 new players, it doesn't mean you're going to be on top of the table”.
He continued, “There are still teams like Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool who will always be at the top. Manchester City can do well because they have brought good players in this year but the reality is on the pitch. You can have 10 new players and it doesn't guarantee you anything”.
Kalou shared mutual thoughts with his Italian manager. He related that it will not be a bad decision to keep the League winning team this season as the blues will certainly like to solidify their grasp on the Premier League before they make a change. He told that everyone confided in them as they had not just managed to win the League but the FA Cup too recently.
Chelsea is facing a problem of breeding up and adding their home grown players in their squad. FA has just announced that each team has to add at least 6 home grown players in their team. Kalou has however stated that it will not be a problem for Chelsea to add some home grown players in their squad.
Kalou has had 113 appearances for Chelsea and has scored 25 goals for them. The Ivory Coast international has stated, “We are still the team to beat; we are the champions. But everyone will come hard to try to beat us. Since I've joined Chelsea [in 2006], we always fight with Manchester for the title. This year, we will be fighting with four good teams, Manchester, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City”.
The Blues were able to defeat the Red Devils by just one point last season though they scored a record number of goals. The League last season saw many ups and downs and a new list of top four, therefore it can be predicted that many upsets can be witnessed in the season of 2010-11.
