Cheltenham officials happy with ground condition – Horseracing Update
The managers of Cheltenham racecourse are quite satisfied with the ground condition and their preparations for the upcoming mega event of Cheltenham festival.
With some light showers likely to come during the next few days, the course curators are expecting a smooth and quality surface ready for the 4-day festival, starting from March 13.
As an alternative to rain, they have put in place a large reservoir of water which can be sprinkled on the ground in order to create dampness.
Thus, all the necessary arrangements are done so that the event can be made successful and viable.
While speaking to the media yesterday, the clerk of the venue, Simon Claisse, said, “We've achieved what we were hoping to achieve and it's good ground all round, both over the hurdles and fences. The course looks in fantastic condition.”
He further told, “A little light rain is forecast from Friday to Monday, and then we may put some more water on early next week. Our reservoir is full but for the 1.2m gallons we have used, with another 6m gallons available if there is no significant rainfall
in the meantime."
The spectacular festival will begin from Tuesday with William Hill Supreme Novices Hurdle at 1:30 (GMT). Each day card contains seven races.
The event will end at 5:15 on Friday, March 16 with Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Chase Challenge Cup.
A number of champion horses are geared up to demonstrate their heroics at Cheltenham, eyeing on victories.
It is expected that there will be a lot of heated competitions during the four days of the event. Numerous spectators from all parts of the world are expected to turn out to the venue to enjoy the ace sporting experience.
The bookmakers have also unveiled betting odds. The trainers are administering effective training measures on their horses. The jockeys are polishing their skills to ride confidently. Thus, the entire atmosphere across England is packed with Cheltenham hullaballoo.
Originated in 1860 with an official title of National Hunt Chase, the high-profile festival featuring a number of star Irish and English runners is held every year.
