2K + H2O ---> KOH + H2 --> 2KOH + H2

(I added a 2 in front of K on the far left to make this balance out.) Is this correct?

  1. It doesn't balance. You now have 3 Hs on the LHS and only 2 on the RHS, ans 2 Os on the RHS but only 1 on the LHS.

  2. Picture water as HOH...the OH combines with K, liberating one H atom...but you need two H atoms to form H2 gas, so you need two HOH molecules.

    Correct is:  2K + 2H2O ---> 2KOH + H2
