Question:

Chemical Burn Date?

I'm in a bit of a pickle. Last night I used Veet hair removal above my upper lip you know, just in case there were fine hairs there. I washed it off and I got the worst chemical burn! (Don't ask why I put it on my face without reading the Warnings...) There are little holes all over my mouth area with blood oozing out. This was last night, today it feels better but I have a date! The guy I'm going to see tonight has to leave on Sunday to go back home (on a plane). What do I do? I don't know if I should put foundation on it, I don't want to irritate my skin. I can't cancel the date, this is the only night he's free and I really like him.

  1. The Veet is probably long gone.  The thing you need to worry about now is whether or not the foundation will irritate damaged skin.  You should check the directions for the makeup and see if it warns against putting it on sensitive or damaged skin.  When you say it feels better, does that mean that it has stopped bleeding?  If there are still open sores, I would not apply the makeup.  If the guy likes you, he probably won't care that much...

And poison control or a doctor could help you determine if you can apply the makeup - would be a good idea to double check with a professional.

For future reference, the website for Veet recommends not using it until 72 hours after shaving, so if you shaved the area any time in the last 3 days, this could have been the cause.

  2. Well, a smart thing to do would be to call poison control.  They'll have the best answer for you.
