If you get a positive pregnancy test, but it's a chemical pregnancy, when you go to the doctors for a test, can they tell if it's a chemical pregnancy or not before you have started your period? Suppose you took the test at home 4 days before your expected period and then went to the doctors the same day.

  1. If you go to your OBGYN they will perform a blood test.  They will get the results and they are much more accurate at determining pregnancy.  If you do come back with a positive pregnancy, you will then have an ultrasound and if they do not see a fetus you have either a missed miscarriage or a chemical pregnancy.  If your body is still doubling in hormones, then it is a chemical pregnancy.  If you body starts to drop in the hormone level then it is a miscarriage.

  2. the only well they can tell is to monitor the bloods over a few days... why do you suspect this?

  3. I don't think they can predict a chemical pregnancy. You will know if you start your period. Most doctors don't do a blood test until you have actually missed your period anyway, mainly because of this reason.  And once you do your blood test and if it's positive, you won't have you're first appointment until like 8 weeks. Chemical pregnancies usually happen before you have your period, so it seems like it's just late if you didn't test early. I think this is what happened to me. I was a week late, had 2 positives and then 3 negatives and then my period started. If you tested positive and there was no human error, then you're pregnant, you can go ahead and call the doctor or wait until you actually miss your period. I would advise to try not to think about it until you miss your period. It's basically a 50-50 chance that it'll end with a chemical pregnancy.
