Question:

Chemical pregnancy question to help reassure me!?

I took 4 HPT's over 3 days and they have all been positive. The test line is lighter than the control line but there is no mistaking that those things are positive (easy to see two lines). I don't know why but I am worried about having a chemical pregnancy (very early miscarriage) since I tested kind of early.... positive results at 10dpo, 11dpo, and 12dpo. The lines have all stayed pretty much the same color.

What does everyone think? Do you think I am in the clear??

  1. I'm going through the EXACT same thing you are.  My husband and I just started trying this past month.  I got my first positive test almost 3 days ago.  I've been testing everyday, and the line is always faint, but definitely there.  I'm also using tests that give early results.  I'm worried about a chemical pregnancy too, and am wondering if I should refrain from telling family before I'm in the clear too. Sooo, have been doing a lot of reading on it. This is what I've found:

M/C are most likely to happen in the first 10 weeks.

If you can hear the baby's heart beat at 5-6 weeks, a chemical pregnancy is nothing to worry about.

If you're feeling the symptoms of pregnancy, ie: breast tenderness, nauseousness, tiredness, then it's most likely not a chemical pregnancy.  Women don't feel symptoms with chemical pregnancies.

Take a pregnancy test every 2 days.  Your HCG level doubles every 2 days.  So as long as your test line continues to get darker each time (or at least not lighter), you are fine. (remember to use first morning urine, other urine could be diluted and give you a faint line)

Schedule a blood test.  Your doctor will track your HCG levels to make sure your pregnancy is progressing normally.

Chemical pregnancies are usually misunderstood as a late period, so if your period days have come and gone, you should be fine.

I really wish you the best of luck! I empathized with all the worrying you're doing. I hope this helps. God's blessings!

  2. You could be very much pregnant.  All you can do is call your doctor and get your first appointment scheduled.  Ask for a blood test before your appointment if you want.  Good luck.

  3. That's the thing with these test that can detect a pregnancy a week before your period.  In a lot of cases you'd never know you had been pregnant.  I wouldn't say that you are in the clear until a few days after your period is suppose to come.  Don't worry about the intensity of the line.  THe line is detecting how much HCG you're making which will increase over time.

  4. I worried too. I got a positive at 8dpo - I swore I took 30 or 40 tests - I am NOT kidding. It's kinda embarrassing actually. Anyway - my line never got SUPER dark. It eventually matched the control line, but I was about 5 weeks pregnant at the time. Also, a few of the times the line actually looked lighter and I FREAKED! Finally, I told myself to stop testing and what will be will be because there isn't anything I could do if something was going wrong. I did and it was a good decision. Chemical pregnancies happen up until 6 weeks - then you are out of the clear for a chemical pregnancy.
