Chemicals and PH?

besides declorinator (water conditioner)

are there any other chemicals i should add in a large tank

also whats a natural way to lower and higher the ph levels

  1. Water (H2O) is a chemical, and I suppose you should be adding it whenever necessary...  Other than that and medications if they get sick, nothing is really of any true use.

    Driftwood and peat will both leech tannins into the water, which are acidic (tannic acid), gradually softening the water and lowering the pH (nothing drastic).  Also, mixing your tap water with reverse osmosis or deionized water will help to dilute buffers (hardness and alkalinity) as well as hydroxide ions (a measure of basicity).
