They should invent a calculator that automatically does it for you.

If you’re going to waste like 10 days of your life balancing chemical equations, wouldn't you rather spend those 10 days learning more about chemistry?

  1. I agree! It can take some practice when you're beginning, but it's essential to chemistry! How will you know how much product to expect if your equation is unbalanced? Or what ratio of reactants is needed?

  2. Balancing equations is as easy as counting.

    And, it's essential.

I agree that sometimes it takes a little too much time, but we need to do it, and it isn't that hard.

  3. I agree with the previous two answers.  Chemistry and Physics as well as advanced math has very little time to waste.  Balancing equations is essential.  Trust your instructors they have been there and know what is coming.  Some courses spend too much time on what should be common sense or marking time but the sciences and mathematics as well as engineering do not waste your time. (I assume these are core courses for you and not what is often referred to as "idiot science"

just to get a couple of general education courses.)  PS I took chemistery when there were only 92 elements and the law of conservation of matter still applied.
