At STP, which sample contains the same number of molecules as 11.2 liters of CO2(g) at STP? The choices are:

5.6L of NO2

7.5L of H2

11.2L of N2 (the correct answer)

22.4L of CO

Why is the answer 11.2 L of N2???

  1. 11.2 L of nitrogen contains the exact same amount of moles as 11.2 L of carbon dioxide because a mole is a mole no matter what makes up the mole.  A mole of CO2 may have different properties than a mole of N but there are still the same amount of moles there.  Like if you filled a balloon with a liter of He and another balloon with a liter of CO2, the properties are different but the number is the same because they both contain 1 liter.  If that didn't help you can convert both to moles (11.2/22.4) they both come out to .5.
