CaO H2O --> Ca(OH)2 (s)

MgO H2O --> Mg (OH)2 (s)

(The color turned pink.)

What evidence do you have for the formula of the solid product?

WHoaaa, can someone please explain? Is it because of the color change? IDK... thanks....

  1. yep, likely so

    phenolphthalein turns pink when there is enough (OH-) ions

    you have them,  & you added a Ca & a Mg compound...

    so we surmise that the 2 oxides reacted with water to form Ca(OH)2 (s)

    &  Mg (OH)2 (s)

    & that's what it does
