  1. Having an international standard allows scientists and other people to share information easily. For example, if a chemist discovers something, he or she will want to share their findings with other chemists. These other chemists will want to test the theory through whatever experiment he or she had used. So it's important that they are using the same exact measurements when repeating the experiment elsewhere, otherwise the results will be drastically different.


  2. because almost all measurement is relative and subjective. one person has different equipment, work habits, glasswares, reagents etc from another. if they do a specific analysis with their own resources and method, you will expect that the results they get are different.

    if there is an international standard, all the details in that particular analysis will be specified and so if that two persons perform that particular analysis as per the standard, you expect that they will get values that are very close with each other, if not the same.
