  1. A) The formal charge on both of the nitrogen atoms is 0 and it does not violate the octet rule.

    Of course there are other ways to look at the bonding. You'll get to sp hybridization soon.

    What you will NOT get is a very different approach to bonding that does not pair electrons in the same orbital! See: www.swcp.com/~jmw-mcw. have your teacher check it out.

    because N has 3 e in the outermost shell... so it likes to have triple bonds :)
