Chemistry question about volume reading?

please explain the paragraph below in simple words to me

"if a series of volume readings for different"Trials" are given ,you may have to discard a reading that is more than 0.02 or so mL different grom the rest of them."

what is volume reading???

you are interpreting the water level on something like a buret, before & after it dispenses a liquid. subtracting the readings gives the volume dispensed.
