Fire is one of the most dramatic and total ways to change the identity and structure of a material.

Also,  fire is one of the very few ways to do something to a material and make it lighter.   Virtually everything else represents a mixture or reaction which becomes heavier.

Fire is plasma which is the fourth state of matter.   The ancients thought the four elements were earth air fire and water.   This was really insightful as the four states of matter are solid, liquid, gas, plasma.

Fire generates heat.   It can give rise to the question of how the heat is stored in the matter to be released through fire.
