a cube of platinum of edge length 0.080 mm (the density of platinum = 21.4 g/cm3)

i thought the answer was .011g after reducing it according to the significant figures.

  1. I guess that you want the mas of the platinum cube?

    Volume of cube in cm³ = 0.008 *0.008* 0.008 = 5.12*10^-7cm³

    Density = mass/ volume

    Mass = density * volume

    Mass = 21.4*5.12*10^-7

    Mass = 1.096*10^-5 grams

    Mass = 1.1*10^-5g  (2sig fig)


  2. .080 millimeters = 0.008 centimeters

    (.008 centimeters)^3 = 5.12e-7 cm^3

    5.12e-7 cm^3 x (21.4 g/cm^3) = 1.10e-5 grams
