2)What is the chemical difference between an acid and a base? Describe what occurs to the pH of a solution if an acid is added to it. What happens to the pH of the solution when the ratio of base is equal to the amount of acid?

3)In the following reaction what is being reduced?

Mg(s) + O2 -> Mg0

4) In a battery there are two distinct regions of the cell, the cathode and the anode. What two processes occur at those regions?

  1. Previous guy should have said for four reduction at cathode and oxidation at the anode

  2. 1) HCl + NaOH --> H2O + NaCl

    2) pH of acid. 1-6 while pH of base 8-14

    if you're talking about the properties.

    -base:

    a) it tastes bitter

    b) it is slippery or soapy

    c) it turns blue litmus paper to blue and red to blue.

    B-B-B and R-B-B

    d) neutralizes acid

    -acid:

    a) it tastes sour

    b) B-R-A and R-R-A

    c) neutralizes base

    3) combination.

  3. 1) H20 and NaCl

    2) acids usually have an H+ ion, and bases usually have an OH-ion, the pH goes down, pH is 7

    3) reduction is the gaining of electrons, so Oxygen is reduced

    4) cathode is positive, + leaves, -comes

    anode is opposite

    make it a good day.
