Chen Hung Lin and Cheng Wen Hsing surge into finals of the 2011 Canada Open Grand Prix
Chinese Taipei’s talented couple of Chen Hung Lin and Cheng Wen Hsing reserved their podium berth by reaching in the Mixed Doubles final after defeating China’s Cheng Liu and Luo Ying in the semi-final of the 2011 Canada Open Grand Prix, in Richmond DC,
Canada, on Saturday, July 23.
The Taipei couple, who are currently enjoying the Sixth place in the Mixed Doubles world rankings, are also top seeds in the Canada Open. Hung Lin and Wen Hsing played better badminton against their Chinese opponents, who put up a strong resistance against
the top seeds by playing at the same level.
However, the Taipei shuttlers remained lucky in winning the fight against the spirited Chinese shuttlers, by working really hard in the three-set semi-final contest which took a court time of 40 minutes.
Hung Lin and Wen Hsing started the game in a poor manner, as they threw away many negative points in the start which helped their challengers to build up a comfortable lead. In the opening half, the Chinese couple remained in a good position by setting up
a good score of 11-7.
After the break, the Chinese duo continued their positive run by playing aggressive badminton and left their higher ranked rivals far behind. Hung Lin and Wen Hsing tried to catch up with the deficit but failed to stop the impressive run of their Chinese
opponents and eventually lost the first game by a big difference of 14-21, in just 12 minutes.
The top seeds came back strongly into the match by playing remarkable badminton in the second set. They maintained good control right from the start and put pressure on their challengers by playing a fast game at the net. Their positive play earned them
a win in the second game with the score of 21-15, in 15 minutes.
Hung Lin and Wen Hsing maintained their better form in the final game against their shaky Chinese opponents, who were not playing positive badminton. The Taipei couple won the final set with a margin of 21-12, in just 13 minutes. This straight-set semi-final
battle ended with the score of 14-21, 21-15 and 21-12.
