Chen Hung Ling – Cheng Wen Hsing wrap up Mixed Doubles crown at Australian Open GP Gold
Chinese Taipei’s talented shuttlers Chen Hung Ling and Cheng Wen Hsing showed their impressive craft and wrapped up Mixed Doubles crown after beating Malaysia’s Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying in Mixed Doubles final at Australian Open GP Gold 2012 in Australia,
on Sunday, April 8.
The World Number Five and second seeds in Australian Open, Hung Ling and Wen Hsing, had to work really hard to beat Peng Soon and Liu Ying, who were the third seeds in Mixed Doubles draw of the championship.
The higher ranked Taipei shuttlers did consumed 63 minutes in the court to overpower their Malaysian opponents in a thrilling three-set encounter.
On the other hand, the Malaysians put up strong resistance in the whole contest but remained unlucky in the end and lost the title match with a respectable margin.
In the first set, both sides played at the same pace and remained toe-to-toe until the end of opening half. Until the one-minute interval, both couples were close on the board.
After the break, the Malaysians played well and took a reasonable lead which was covered by the Taipei shuttlers by reaching at 18-18.
The score was 20-20 when Hung Ling and Wen Hsing controlled the pace of rallies and bagged two consecutive points to take the set with a 22-20 score on the board.
In the second game, Hung Ling and Wen Hsing could not dominate the pace or rallies and played wrong shots in the opening half which helped their Malaysian opponents to take a reasonable lead until the break.
After the interval, Hung Ling and Wen Hsing remained struggling in the whole set and lost it with a huge difference of 12-21.
In the deciding game, both sides showed their incredible craft in the court by playing to their maximum abilities and remained neck-to-neck until the mid-game interval.
After the break, they continued their attacking and positive run in the game and remained close until the score reached at the breath-taking stage of 20-20.
At this crucial stage, Hung Ling and Wen Hsing played tremendous badminton and won the set with a 23-21 score on the board.
The Taipei shuttlers bagged the crown by winning the final match with a margin of 22-20, 12-21 and 23-21.
