Chen Hung Ling and Cheng Wen Hsing win Mixed Doubles title at the 2011 Japan Open Super Series
Chinese Taipei’s Chen Hung Ling and Cheng Wen Hsing won the Mixed Doubles title after beating Denmark’s Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen in the final match of the 2011 Japan Open Super Series, in Tokyo, on Sunday, September 25.
Hung Ling and Wen Hsing, who are currently ranked at Number Seven in the Mixed Doubles world rankings, stunned their higher ranked Danish opponents by playing wonderful badminton for three sets of 65 minutes and clinched the title.
The first set of the match was interesting as both couples put up a strong show of attacking badminton. World Number Four duo, Nielsen and Pedersen tried to dominate the game by working well at net but their opponents played wonderful defensive strokes.
Until the 60-second interval, the Taipei couple was leading with the margin of 11-10.
After the break, the score remained close until the first set entered into the concluding phase when the Taipei shuttlers played fabulous badminton and won it with the result of 21-19, in 23 minutes.
In the following set, Nielsen and Pedersen changed their strategy and played parallel badminton. They kept their opponents away from the net to create pressure on them and remained successful in getting a good lead by reaching at 11-8 until the break.
After the break, the Danish couple remained on the driving seat as the Taipei shuttlers made numerous unforced errors and lost the second game with the difference of 16-21 in 22 minutes.
The third and deciding set of this final contest of the event was thrilling in the initial points as both sides remained close. However, Hung Ling and Wen Hsing started to build a lead by playing positive badminton. They reached 11-7 at the end of the first-half
of the final game.
After the break, they continued playing dominating badminton by keeping the pace at the highest level. Hung Ling and Wen Hsing won the third set by a margin of 21-15, in 20 minutes. The overall result of this 65-minute final showdown was 21-19, 16-21 and
21-15.
