Chen Jin beats Hyun Il Lee in title match of Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold 2012
The Men’s singles shuttler Chen Jin from China sealed the crown by beating Hyun Il Lee of Korea in title match of Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold on March 18, 2012.
The World Number five Chen Jin stamped his rival with final score 14-21, 21-9 and 21-17 on the board. It was a do-or-die situation as he has been roped in a tight Olympic qualification tussle and this win will fetch valuable rankings points for him.
The epic three set tussle lasted for one hour and seven minutes in which both players sweat hard to seize the honour but the final 2-1 match score remained in favour of Chen Jin.
The World Number seven shuttler Lee Hyun Il took a great start by snatching the first match point with score board flashing final figures of 21-14.
The badminton maestro Lee managed to keep his opponent down in most part of the opening set. He did not allow his rival to catch him on score board and Chen Jin kept trailing behind him until the game point when Lee put a 1-0 lead by winning first set with
a distinctive difference of 7 points in the final margin.
However, the story was different in second chapter of the saga as Chen Jin stormed back and turned the tables by placing an impressive margin of 21-9 on the score board.
The backlash from the Chinese ace was so powerful that the Korean defence collapsed after resisting for some points in the beginning. The 26-year-old shuttler dazzled his rival with his electrifying performance and pushed him into dark by stealing the second
segment of the show.
Both players were levelled at 1-1 match score position and the spectators were expecting the decider to be a neck-to-neck competition. Their thirst was filled to some extent as the two finalists stretched hard to knock out each other.
This race to glory finally ended when Chen Jin emerged as new Champion by scoring the final game point in 67th minute of the match. He earned his right to stand at top of the victory stand by registering final margin of 21-17.
The third top shuttler of China in world rankings, Chen Jin will be now be looking to bag the prestigious titles of Australian Open and India Open, going to be staged in April, to elevate his chances to qualify in 2012 London Olympics.
