Chen Jin defeats Chong Wei Feng in Men’s Singles quarter-final of 2011 Korea Open Grand Prix Gold
China’s former World Champion, Chen Jin had to work hard to win his Men’s Singles quarter-final contest against Malaysia’s spirited player, Chong Wei Feng in the 2011 Korea Open Grand Prix Gold, in Korea, on Friday, December 9.
The top seed of the event, Jin, who has been placed at number five in the Men’s Singles world rankings, passes a severe test against the Malaysian, who put up strong show by playing aggressive badminton. However, the Chinese worked well in the end and won
the three-set battle by spending 70 minutes in the court.
The Malaysian played wonderful badminton in the opening set and took it with an impressive margin. However, the top seed Chinese bounced back in the second game and won it by playing to his maximum potential. In the final set, the Chinese remained on the
right track and won the game with a one-sided margin.
The start of the opening set was surprising when the Malaysian showed his class and played remarkable game against the higher ranked Chinese shuttler. He was taking the bird early from all corners without any considerable effort. On the other hand, Jin failed
to find his momentum and lost the set with a huge margin of 13-21.
In the following set of the match, the Chinese became furious as he missed no chance to kill the bird from all areas of the court. Wei Feng failed to continue his impressive run in this set as he lost his control over the bird. He played at his best speed
and remained successful in taking the game with a wonderful score of 21-14.
In the decider, Jin took no time in setting up an impressive lead in the opening half of the game. Wei Feng became defensive which helped the Chinese to maintain pressure. Jin rushed towards the concluding phase of the match without sparing any room for
the Malaysian to fight back in the game.
He finished up the set with a one-sided margin of 21-10. The end result of this quarter-final fight was 13-21, 21-14 and 21-10.
In the semi-final contest, Jin will be up against Korea’s Lee Hyun Il, who thrashed Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto in the other quarter-final match.
