Chen Jin faces a shameful exit from Men’s Singles event of 2012 Yonex Denmark Open
A stunning upset was seen in the Men’s Singles event of the Yonex Denmark Open as the Chinese badminton maestro Chen Jin had to bid farewell after losing to Suppanyu Avihingsanon on October 17, 2012.
World Number four Chen Jin, who was one of the frontrunners in this Premier Super Series, failed to show his brilliance on the court and faced a woeful defeat with concluding result of 21-11, 11-21 and 15-21.
This epic tussle remained in full swing for 58 minutes and both contenders challenged each other in all areas of the game throughout three exhausting sets.
The Chinese ace had a dream start as he did not find any trouble to claim the opening match point but he failed to stretch his winning streak and surrendered in crucial moments of the showdown.
In first set of the match, Chen Jin set the ball rolling with three successive points and then maintained this momentum in next couple of rallies.
He placed an unconquerable total of 11 before the interval and put his competitor under huge pressure.
The Thai campaigner strived hard to come out of his rival’s influence but Chen Jin served notice of his supremacy with an overwhelming margin of 21-11.
However, the story was entirely different in following game as the Chinese maestro put up a below par performance which cost him a lot.
Suppanyu, who looked confused in previous game, showed a transformed character and enthralled his higher ranked opponent.
This time he did not repeat previous mistakes and gained an early advantage by registering 9-2 total in no time.
He maintained the upper hand until half time and capitalised this psychological edge in later part of the game.
He made a notable difference of ten points and levelled the match score with a striking knock of 21-11.
This development turned the decider into a survival of the fittest war and both shuttlers played premium class badminton to oust the opponent.
Chen Jin struggled to revive his lost form and his fluctuated performance ultimately led him to an early exit from this tournament.
The Thai player raised hands as champion after putting a convincing figure of 21-15.
