Chen Jin fails to proceed in Men’s Singles event of 2012 Hong Kong Open – Badminton News
An upset was seen in the opening round of Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open as the Men’s Singles maestro Chen Jin of China knelt down in front of Marc Zwiebler on November 21, 2012.
This shocking meeting concluded in just 36 minutes in the local badminton arena with decisive figures of 21-14 and 21-14.
World Number four Chinese shuttler, who was third seeded player in this tournament, failed to employ all of his brilliance and experience in the game which ultimately led him to a woeful exit.
On the other hand, Marc Zwiebler performed beyond expectations and qualified for the pre quarter-finals where he will be up against Hans Kristian Vittinghus of Denmark.
In the opening game, Chen Jin took a great start and prevailed in four rallies without any interruption.
It was felt that he will easily cruise to victory but then the German player came in his way and put his expedition to halt in this race of glory.
Marc Zwiebler started the beating after 1-4 and established a decent edge by registering 9-7 margin on the board. He prevailed in five consecutive rallies to strengthen his grip over the game.
This flurry of well placed strokes confounded Chen Jin as he could not employ an effective counter-attack strategy and lost tamely.
The Chinese badminton ace finished first half of the set with a slight deficit but things became worse in later part of the game. He had to surrender after reading a decisive figure of 14-21.
Next game proved just a replay of previous one as Chen Jin could not come out of his bad patch and crashed out of this Super Series.
On the other hand, Marc Zwiebler showed consistency in his performance and sealed a splendid straight-set victory.
The German campaigner set the foundation of his supremacy with six consecutive points in the beginning and then magnified the impact by piling up an indomitable margin of 11 before the interval.
Though, the Chinese shuttler made every effort to end his rival’s dominance but he failed to unseat him and knelt down after reading 14-21 score on the board.
