Chen Jin hammers Hans Kristian Vittinghus in Men’s Singles quarter-final: China Masters Super Series
Former World Champion, Chen Jin of China powered his way into Men’s Singles semi-final after winning the quarter-final battle against Denmark’s Hans Kristian Vittinghus at the 2011 Li Ning China Masters Super Series, in China, on Friday, September 16.
Jin is currently standing at Number Five in the Men’s Singles world rankings and he is also the fourth seed in the main draw of the tournament. He played according to expectations, as he finished-off the quarter-final battle in 51 minutes.
The Chinese opened his journey against the Danish in a positive manner, as he displayed composed and safe badminton. He remained focused in the opening points to secure a good lead, but the Danish shuttler also played with aggression. The score was close
until the interval where the Chinese was in lead at 11-9.
After the one-minute interval, the higher ranked Jin put extra power in his strokes to disturb the balance of his rival, and he was successful in creating and manipulating the gaps. However, Vittinghus continued to fight until the end of the opening set
by working really hard.
The long rallies between the two elite shuttlers made the match interesting for local fans. The Chinese won the first set with the margin of 21-16, as he worked for 24 minutes in the court.
In the following set, the Chinese dominated the game with wonderful ease in the opening points and reached at 6-1. He maintained this big gap until the end of the first-half of the second game by reaching 11-6. The Danish slowed down in the start which created
a big gap in the first-half.
However, after the break, Vittinghus played wonderful badminton and scored one point after the other to reduce the deficit by reaching at 13-14. At this stage, both players played tremendously well until the concluding phase of the second game.
The Chinese employed his experience and played fast and positive badminton to clinch the game by a 21-19 margin, in 27 minutes. This 51-minute quarter-final battle ended in straight games with a 21-16 and 21-19 score on the board.
