Chen Jin needs impressive touch to qualify for 2012 Olympic Games
China’s World Number Five, Chen Jin, who is currently occupying the 5th place in the Men’s Singles world rankings, is one of the best shuttlers on the planet as he is a complete player from all aspects of the game. However, he is struggling hard
to find a position in the top four shuttlers to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games.
The 25-year-pld Jin clinched the best title of his professional career by winning the 2010 BWF World Championships, in Paris. However the current year has not brought him that kind of achievements as he remained unable to reach even in the final of the 2011
World Championships. His quivering start in this year is quite alarming as the Olympic Games are just Nine months away and he needs ranking points to improve his standing in the world rankings.
Jin has been fluctuating in the top ten positions in world rankings since 2007. He grabbed the world Number Two ranking in 2007 for a period of few weeks and it was his best ranking so far. Chen Jin won the Asian Junior Badminton Championships in 2004 and
entered into the arena of the elite shuttlers. He started competing with the top players from all over the world and proved his worth by producing great performances.
In 2004, he emerged victorious in two events including the Polish Open and French Open. In 2006, he won German Open Badminton Championship and also won the lucrative event of 2006 China Masters. In the following year he displayed a remarkable performance
in the Swiss Open 2007 and clinched the title by beating some of the best players in the world of Badminton. In the same year he also won another tournament, the Macau Open 2007.
The year 2008 was the most successful year as compared to the previous years when he grabbed two major titles. He defended his title in the 2008 China Masters and for the first time won the prestigious All England Open Badminton Championships 2008 against
the world’s best player and team-mate Lin Dan.
In the same year, he clinched bronze medal in the Beijing Olympics by beating Lee Hyun Il from Korea. Jin is also one of the main players of China Badminton team for Thomas Cup. In the final of 2009 World Badminton Championships, Jin lost the final contest
against his compatriot Lin, who became the World Champion for the third time.
In 2010, Chen Jin won the Swiss Open super series, and continued his tremendous run in the 2010 Thomas Cup Finals, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and played major role in the victory of his team. After winning the Thomas Cup, he clinched the highly desired mega
title when he defeated former World and Olympic Champion Taufiq Hidayat of Indonesia, and became the 2010 World Champion.
Throughout his professional career, Jin has been proving himself against the best shuttlers the world has ever produced. However, bad patches are also a part of the professional life of players. In the current year, the spirited Chinese failed to produce
that winning form he is famous for. He has won only one event in this year as he clinched the Men’s Singles title in the 2011 Singapore Open Super Series, where Lin Dan conceded a walkover in the final against Jin.
Now he is looking forward to get into the top four because a country can have three entries in the Olympic Games in one category if its three shuttlers are placed in the top four positions in the world rankings. Lin Dan and Chen Long are already in the top
four, but Jin needs to win more ranking points to get the mark.
