Chen Jin ousts Hans Kristian Vittinghus to enter into second round of Singapore Open Super Series
China’s Chen Jin has booked his spot in the second round after beating Denmark’s Hans Kristian Vittinghus in the opening round of the Singapore Open Super Series 2011. The match was held Singapore City, on Wednesday, June 15.
Chen Jin, who is the reigning World Champion, found himself in trouble in the opening set, when his opponent played top-class badminton with a touch of precision and accuracy. The Danish played really well against the Chinese in the opening set and made
him work hard to earn points.
World Number 11, Chen Jin, was not playing an impressive game as he was missing the side lines while executing his powerful smashes. His shaky play and wrong shot selection helped the Danish to control the game.
However, the Chinese geared up his speed and levelled the score at 20-20. At this critical stage of the game, Chen made some mistakes and lost the opening set by a 23-21 margin, in 30 minutes.
Chen made a strong comeback in the following set by playing to his full potential. He was miles ahead of Hans Kristian in the second game by playing impressive shots in all areas of his rival’s court. He wasted no time in finishing the second set with a
dramatic margin of 21-9 by consuming just 18 minutes in the court.
In the third game, Kristian tried to match the speed and accuracy of his challenger but failed to cope up with the precision and shot selection of the Chinese. Chen displayed a stunning game by hitting fascinating jump smashes followed by net killings.
The Chinese spent 17 minutes in the third game to chuck out the Danish shuttler, with an impressive margin of 21-10. The rubber-set match ended in 66 minutes with the victory of Chen Jin by a 21-23, 21-9 and 21-10 score on the board.
In the Men’s Singles second round, Chen will be up against Korea’s Sung Hwan Park, who got rid of P Kashyap of India in the first round.
