Chen Jin struggles to beat Ajay Jayaram in Men’s Singles second round - Thailand Open GP Gold
China’s Chen Jin had to work hard to beat Ajay Jayaram of India, in the Men’s Singles second round of the Thailand Open GP Gold 2011, on Wednesday, June 8. The tournament is being staged in Bangkok, Thailand.
The fourth seed, Chen Jin, who is currently the World Number 11 and ruling World Champion, had to dig deep into his arsenal to win the 55-minute rubber-set match against Jayaram.
In the first game of this interesting encounter, Chen Jin, played wonderful badminton and found no considerable resistance from Jayaram, who was not playing well against the Chinese. Chen Jin finished the first set in just 15 minutes, with a one-sided margin
of 21-12.
In the second game of the match, Jayaram lifted the level of his game and became quick in all areas of the court. He took a comfortable lead right from the start of the second set and maintained it by playing at his best. The Chinese changed his strategy
to dominate the game, but failed against the impressive Indian. The fourth seed lost the second game by a notable difference of 15-21, in 19 minutes.
In the final set, the game remained quite close in the opening part as no shuttler was able to take a reasonable lead. The fourth seed tried his best to take an early lead over the Indian, but failed to do so as Jayaram was playing at the same level of his
opponent. The score entered into the second part of the third set by reaching 12-12.
At this crucial stage, Chen Jin geared up his speed and managed to create a three-point gap of 17-14. The talented Indian worked hard to level the score and reached 16-18. Jayaram then scored two more points and drew near to his opponent at 18-20.
Despite a spirited effort from the Indian, Chen Jin scored the last point and won the set by 21-18 margin, in 21 minutes. The ending result of this 55-minute match was 21-12, 15-21 and 21-18.
