Chen Jin tames Raul Must in Men’s Singles opening round of the 2011 World Championships
China’s talented shuttler, Chen Jin, penetrated into the second round after taming Estonia’s Raul Must in the opening round of the Men’s Singles category at the 2011 World Championships, in London, England, on Monday, August 8.
World Number Six, Chen Jin, who is the defending champion and sixth seed in the Men’s Singles draw of the mega event, found no trouble from Raul in the fight as he finished it quite easily in straight games by taking only 36 minutes.
The right-handed shuttler, Jin, is known for his stamina and hard work in the court and he falls into the most elite category of players in the world of badminton. He won the 2010 World Championships by beating Taufik Hidayat in the final of the event. Now,
he is looking strong to defend his title as he proved his class through the wonderful win in his first match.
Jin remained calm in the opening points to get familiar with the wind conditions of the hall and soon geared up his speed. He was playing all sorts of strokes in every area of the court to get a certain level of accuracy.
The perfect high clears of the Chinese pushed Raul on the boundary line of the rear court and he failed to handle the bird effectively. The Chinese took an advantage of 7 points in the first-half by reaching 11-7.
The higher ranked Chinese continued his perfect game after the one-minute interval in the opening set by playing with great pace. He was picking the bird quite early from the net and his wonderful tight net strokes created problems for his opponent, who
was making errors in returning the net shots. Jin took 16 minutes to clinch the first game with a striking margin of 21-8.
Raul tried to gear up his speed in the opening half of the second game but he could not tackle the pace of the game effectively. Jin was in winning form throughout the match and finished it with a dramatic margin of 21-10, in 20 minutes. The Chinese clinched
this 36-minute straight-set match with a 21-8 and 21-10 score on the board.
