Chen Long, Saina Nehwal to shine in upcoming 2011 Thai Open Grand Prix Gold – Badminton news
Chen Long of China and Saina Nehwal of India are amongst the many elite shuttlers who will participate in the upcoming 2011 Thai Open Grand Prix Gold, which will take place in Thailand from June 7 to 12.
China, India, Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan and Korea will send their shuttlers for the Thai Open GP Gold, which will give precious ranking points. These points will help players to find a place in the 2012 London Olympics.
In 2010, the Thai Open was cancelled but it is back in 2011 to entertain some of the best shuttlers in the badminton world.
China’s Chen Long, who is the champion of Men’s Singles in the China Open, will be the top seed in the event. The Chinese is currently enjoying the number four position in the Men’s Singles world rankings. Chen will have a tough fight against the local hero
Boonsak Ponsana, who is currently ranked at number seven in the world.
In the Women’s Singles, many famous names will be competing in the Thai Open. India’s ace shuttler Saina Nehwal, who is currently enjoying the world number four standings in the Women’s Singles world rankings, will compete in the event to grab more ranking
points.
China will send Lu Lan, Jiang Yanjiao and Wang Lin in the Thai Open. These shuttlers are regarded among the best athletes in the world. The local hero Porntip Buranaprasertsuk will also join forces with Ratchanok Inthanon, Sapsiree Taerattanachai, Salakjit
Ponsana and some other local shuttlers.
In the Men’s Doubles, Jung Jae Sung and Lee Yong Dae of Korea will be the top seeds in the Thai Open. The duo will face lower ranked players from China, Korea, Indonesia, India and Thailand.
In the Women’s Doubles, Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang will be the leaders in the draw. The duo is determined to win the championship in order to get maximum points to earn higher ranking for the 2012 London Olympics.
In the Mixed Doubles category, local favourites Saralee Thoungthongkam and Sudket Prapakamol will be top seeds in the home event. The couple is currently placed at number two in the Mixed Doubles world ranking and is expected to win the title in the event.
