Chen Long confounds Andre Kurniawan Tedjono in Men’s Singles opening round – Hong Kong Open Update
Men’s Singles expert Chen Long proved his class in the opening round of Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open and marched into the pre quarter-finals on Wednesday, November 21, 2012.
The prime Chinese campaigner overwhelmed Andre Kurniawan Tedjono by finishing the 37-minute tussle with a favourable result of 21-10 and 21-13.
World Number three shuttler played with complete command over his craft and sealed a straight-set victory.
The Indonesian player, who was an unseeded contender in this Super Series, looked completely dazzled in front of his world class rival.
Andre Kurniawan lost first set of the match with a huge deficit and then knelt down tamely in the final game.
On the other hand, Chen Long ruled the court from the beginning of the opening game and maintained an upper hand until last shot was played.
He started the ball rolling with nine consecutive points and then capitalised this initial lead to pile up an indomitable figure of 11-4 before the interval.
In the second half, he lost focus for short span of time but then reinstated his dominance with couple of productive rallies.
The Indonesian campaigner made the best out of his competitor’s bad patch and narrowed the gap but he could not carry this rhythm in the third quarter of the set.
Chen Long stormed back with a strong reply and tipped the scale in his favour. He bagged seven out of ending eight points and won this crucial game with an impressive result of 21-10.
The second set made the crowd gasp as Andre Kurniawan looked in prime touch in the establishing rallies and it was felt he will avoid a straight-set defeat.
However, the Chinese badminton ace proved his worth by coming back from horrendous start. He was three steps behind his rival just before the interval but couple of uninterrupted points took him to a commanding position of 11-9.
Chen Long did not make even a single mistake and doubled his lead immediately after the break. He maintained a significant difference and placed a winning score of 21-13.
Now he will be up against either Daren Liew or Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka in the pre quarter-finals of this Super Series.
