Chen Long grabs Men's Singles title at Japan Open Super Series – Badminton news
China’s two-time World Junior Champion and current World Number Four, Chen Long won the Men’s Singles title at Japan Open Super Series to make it back-to-back victories as he also grabbed the crown at last week’s China Masters Super Series.
In the Men’s Singles final, the fourth seed Long defeated World Number One and top seed, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, who was the defending champion in the event.
The Chinese played surprising badminton in the first game and won it with an incredible margin of 21-8. However, the top seed bounced back in the second set by playing to his maximum speed. Long failed to maintain his grip on the pace of the rallies and
lost it by a margin of 10-21.
In the final set, both shuttlers played aggressive badminton and reached at the crucial stage of 19-19. At this moment, the Chinese managed to play a perfect game and won the set by a 21-19 margin. This wonderful title-match ended with a 21-8, 10-21 and
21-19 margin.
Tey Seu Bock, the national coach of Malaysia, said that the Chinese played well in the final match against Chong Wei. However, the coach also said that Long was fresh against Chong Wei as he did not play in the semi-final against Lin Dan, who withdrew from
the fight because of an injury.
The coach said, “Chen Long did not play Lin Dan and he looked rather fresh. He played well today – especially when he took advantage of an off-focus Chong Wei in the first game.”
While talking about Chong Wei’s reaction to the loss, the coach said, “Yes, he is disappointed at this moment but I am confident that he will come out of it. He will be given two days rest and then, it is back to training for him. Chong Wei has to work harder
as players other than Lin Dan are catching up.”
The Chinese went home swelling with pride as he is back on the winning track. With the 2012 London Olympics just 10 months away, these back-to-back victories will help him the Chinese in getting a better ranking for the mega event.
