Chen Long makes his mark over World Number One to bag Men’s Singles crown: Japan Open Super Series
Chen Long, a talented young shuttler from China, has grabbed the best win of his professional career as he made his mark over the World Number One Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia in the Men’s Singles final showdown of the 2011 Yonex Japan Open Super Series, on
Sunday, September 25, at Tokyo, Japan.
The 22-year-old Chinese, who was the third seed in the tournament, stunned the world when he defeated top seed, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia after a nerve-breaking rubber-set fight.
After winning the 73-minute battle against the best athlete in the world, Long celebrated his victory in a passionate manner as it was the best win of his career especially when it came through winning against Chong Wei.
The Chinese delivered a surprising performance in the opening set of the match when he played a perfect game and showed no mercy to the top seed throughout the set. He seemed to have done his home work well as he knew every move of his higher ranked opponent,
who was playing his ninth final of the current year.
The positive and planned badminton of the Chinese earned him the opening game in fabulous fashion, with the score of 21-8. Chong Wei could not play well in the first set as his killing smashes remained useless against the superb defensive skills of Long.
However, the Malaysian found his momentum and fought back in the match by playing to his full potential in the second game. Long failed to tackle variations in the strokes of his higher ranked opponent and lost the game by the difference of 10-21.
The third game was a breath-taking fight as both shuttlers progressed equally until the score reached at 19-19. At this crucial stage, the top seed made a critical mistake which helped the passionate Chinese to clinch the game with a 21-19 margin.
The final score of this thrilling 73-minute title-match was 21-8, 10-21 and 21-19. Long will now focus his attention at the 2011 Denmark Open Premier Super Series, starting from October 18-23 in Odense, Denmark.
