Chen Long outshines Marc Zwiebler in quarter-finals of 2013 Yonex German Open
China’s badminton ace Chen Long served notice of his dominance in the quarter-final round of Yonex German Open and secured a semi-final berth on Friday, March 1, 2013.
He locked horns with a German campaigner Marc Zwiebler and their meeting lasted for 81 minutes.
This Men’s Singles tussle proved real test of their mental and physical strength. They put a mesmerising show of badminton skills and kept the audience glued to their chairs while piling up final figures of 21-10, 19-21 and 21-12.
World Number two Chen Long prevailed in the opening and ending segments of the showdown whereas the native shuttler could rule the court only in the second set.
The battle heated up when Chinese player launched a brisk attack and established an unassailable lead without any delay. He bagged many valuable points in a row and doubled his total in no time.
On the other hand, Marc was not prepared for such an intensive campaign and he remained at the lower end all the way to half time.
Chen Long strengthened his grip over game with a respectable margin of 11 and then won this crucial set with an overwhelming score of 21-10.
However, things were not that much easy for him in the following game as the local shuttler relished full benefits of home ground and brought the contest to right balance.
This time Marc did not repeat previous mistakes and put his competitor’s expedition to halt with couple of productive rallies.
He played flawless badminton and finished first half of the set with a decent figure. Though, he lost focus immediately after the break but then few back-to-back points helped him to reinstate his supremacy.
He registered a tight yet decisive total of 21-19 and setup a nerve-racking third set.
Unexpectedly, the decider proved a one-sided affair as Chen Long employed all of his brilliance and experience in the game and confounded his rival.
The Chinese maestro showed his intention immediately in the establishing rallies and gained an early advantage on the points table.
He maintained that upper hand all the way to one-minute interval and placed a convincing score of 11. He prevailed in latter part of the game and piled up a winning margin of 21-12.
