Chen Long proceeds to Men’s Singles second round of the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2011
China’s young shuttler, Chen Long, surged into the Men’s Singles second round after crushing Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen in the first round of the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2011, in Indonesia, on June 22, 2011.
The 22-year-old Chen Long, who is the fourth seed in the event, played superb badminton against the World Number 14, Jorgensen and won the match in straight games in 49 minutes, proving that he is one of the major contestants for the Men's Singles title
in the Indonesia open.
Chen employed his powerful smashes coupled with the superb net play, which put him in a leading position right from the start of the opening game. He tried every skill he had in his possession to chuck out the Danish shuttler, who was struggling hard to
find high clears to hit smashes. At the interval in the opening game, Chen was leading the match by a good margin of 11-7.
Jorgensen changed his tactics and started to keep the shuttlecock low at the net to keep the Chinese away from the net. However, the Chinese became more aggressive in the concluding part of the first set and managed to win it by a margin of 21-15, in 20
minutes.
The crowd could not have asked for better badminton, as both players put up a tremendous show of quality play in the second set. The score progressed without any player having a clear lead. It was a fight full of potential, where both shuttlers were playing
with the best of their skills and aggression.
The score was quite close until the ending moments of the second set, where both players were looking for a two-point lead to finish up the game. At 21-21, Chen Long’s power-play earned him two much needed successive points and he won the set by a 23-21
score, in 29 minutes. The concluding result of this 49-minute straight-game fight was 21-15 and 23-21.
In the Men’s Singles second round, Chen will take on either Kenichi Tago of Japan or Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand.
